“Susie” Helen Irene VanHoose Corbett, 74, of Kirksville passed away Friday (December 31, 2010) at Boone Hospital in Columbia, MO.
The daughter of John Henry and Ina Mae (Walters) McFarland, she was born May 3, 1936 in Kirksville, MO. On November 17, 1953 she married Joe Ed VanHoose and he preceded her in death on September 22, 1991. On October 4, 1993 she married Vergle Gene Corbett.
Susie is survived by her husband, Vergle Gene Corbett; three children, Brenda Sue Jamison; Eddie Joe VanHoose and wife Kelley; Nancy Kay Cruz and significant other Rogelio Zelaya; five grandchildren, Steven Cima, April Heywood and husband Les, Benjamin Linthicum, Jacob VanHoose and Justin VanHoose; two step great grandchildren, Makayla and Trenton Heywood; four step children, Steve Corbett and wife Linda, Curt Corbett and wife Jan, Cliff Corbett and wife Amber, and Jim Corbett and wife Sherry; many step grandchildren and great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and two sisters.
Susie grew up in Kirksville and graduated from the Kirksville High School in 1954. She worked for McGraw Edison, Head Start and Square Deal Antique Mall. Her most valued roles were that of a loving wife and devoted mother. She will be greatly missed by many who love her.
Susie attended the Assembly of God Church most of her life. She enjoyed music, singing, sewing and antiques. She was a faithful and gifted member of the Sweet Adeline’s from 1978 until the time of her death.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday (January 4, 2010) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Fredricks and Pastor Isreal Sepulveda officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hills Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Benjamin Linthicum, Jacob VanHoose, Rogelio Zelaya, Virgil Dean Rusk, Gale Rusk and Perry McFarland Jr. Honorary bearers will be Steve Cima, Justin VanHoose, Thelma Davis, and David McFarland.
Visitation with the family will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the:
