Betty Deacon, 74, of Kirksville died Monday, January 10, 2011 at her home.
The daughter of Jack and Nela (Peavler) Patterson, born July 12, 1936 in Kirksville. On November 19, 1954 she was united in marriage to Rolland "Rod" Deacon who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her parents; one brother, Bobby Lee, in infancy; and one sister, Mary Todd.
She is survived by three sons, Rolland "Dale" Deacon of Columbia, Darrell Deacon and wife Sam of Bowden, GA, and David Deacon of Kirksville; three daughters, Melinda Humphrey of Kirksville, Lisa Decker and husband Allen of Sanford, NC, and Teresa Deacon of Kirksville; twenty-two grandchildren, including one granddaughter who was raised by Betty, Jessica Deacon; twenty great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jack Patterson and wife Carol of Rocheport, Billy Joe Patterson of Kirksville, and Andy Patterson and wife Mary of Houston, TX; one sister, Helen Millhouse and husband Gary of Novinger; and several nieces and nephews.
Betty received her education at Troy Mills and Kirksville Public Schools. After her marriage, she was a homemaker for many years before becoming a certified dietician. She was employed at Twin Pines Adult Care Center, Kirksville Shrine Club, Centennial and Ryle Hall before retiring from NEMO Senior Services. She enjoyed reading Louis L'amour books, gardening, and walking her dog. She was a very faithful member of the Decker Chapel.
Funeral service will be held Friday, January 14, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Virgil Jones and Gonda Manning officiating. Musical selections will be, "How Great Thou Art", "The Church in the Wildwood", and "Picking Flowers for the Master's Bouquet". Burial will be in LaPlata Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Maggart, Bradley Deacon, Dod Deacon, Justin Deacon, Austin Deacon, and Link Maggart. Honorary pallbearers will be Robin Lowe, John Tuck, Nick Zahinger, Bud Patterson, and Dakota Deacon.
Family will be receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at
