Roberta Nadean Glaspie, 76 of Marshall, MO passed away Monday (January 11, 2011) at Fitzgibbons Memorials Hospital in Marshall.
The daughter of Cletus and Dorothy (Dean) Black, she was born November 17, 1935 in Putnam County. On March 17, 1962 in Lancaster, MO she was united in marriage to Hubert Eugene Glaspie who preceded her in death on November 16, 1996. Also preceding her in death were her parents, three children in infancy, one sister, Susan West and a brother-in-law, Wesley Warden.
Surviving are three children, Rebecca Glaspie of Kirksville, Jean Ann Glaspie of Kirksville, and Sharmen Lawson of Marshall; seven brothers and sisters, Charlotte Burnell of Grinell, IA, Dora Warden of Marshall, Henry Black of Pella, IA, Erma Sorenson and husband Ralph of Harvey, IA, Cletus Black and wife Trina of Berryville, VA, John Paul Black of Renick, WV, and James Black of Berryville, VA; fourteen grandchildren, Jessica, Josh and Heather Glaspie, Clarissa, Justin, Matthew, Coy, Clayton and Ashley McFarland, Tony Glaspie, Brian, Amber, Amanda and Christy Packham, six great grandchildren and a special friend, Sandy Thrasher.
Roberta grew up and attended rural school in Schuyler and Putnam counties, and Coatsville and Queen City High Schools. She worked as a house keeper in different farm homes in the county, Travelers Hotel in Kirksville, in the Laundry department of Kirksville Osteopathic Hospital, Ryle Hall at Kirksville State Teacher College and Twin Pines Adult Care Center.
She was a member of the Salvation Army. She was a former president of the Red Hatters in Kirksville. She loved to cook and collect cook books. She loved to be around and with her grandchildren and loved to travel with her sisters and family.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday (January 16, 2011) at Dooley Funeral Home with Major Kathy Hogg officiating. Burial will be in Queen City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tony Glaspie, Brian Packham, Cortez Robinson, Randy Collis, Larry Burnell, Martin Edde, John Burnell and Jonathon Warden. Honorary bearers will be Loren Burnell and Daniel Sorenson.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the
