Florence L. Wicklund

April 23, 1916 — January 19, 2011

Florence Wicklund, 94 of Kirksville passed away Wednesday (January 19, 2011) at Kirksville Manor Care Center.
The daughter of Daniel V. and Aggie (Botts) Smith, she was born April 23, 1916 in Queen City, MO. She graduated from the Queen City High School in the class of 1934.
While working in Des Moines, IA she met her future husband, William Wicklund and they were married in Kirksville on June 25, 1939. Over time Florence and Bill lived in several western states where Bill was a supervisor for Mountain States Telephone Company. Following his retirement they moved to Rogers, Arkansas. Several years after Bill’s death Florence moved to Kirksville.
Florence always shared her husband’s love of fishing, camping and hunting. She will always be remembered for her special talent of playing the piano by ear, starting at the age of three. Although she studied classical music she was always happy to play the golden oldies when family and friends requested.
Florence is survived by her sister, Joyce Brower and husband Bob of Ft. Worth, TX and six nieces and nephews, Dan Smith, Doug Smith, Perley Smith, Marilyn Broseghini, Dwight Brower and Paula Guelian.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill and three older siblings, Floyd Smith, Glen Smith and Olive Smith.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday (January 22, 2011) at Dooley Funeral Home with Reverend George Bradburn officiating. Burial will be in Queen City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Virgil Schmitter, Perley Jones, Perley Smith, Don Sidwell, Frank Broseghini and Billie Sidwell.
Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 to 2:00 Saturday at the
Dooley Funeral Home
