Gary Wayne Swearingen, 32, of Unionville, Missouri passed away on January 20, 2011. Gary was born on February 19, 1978 in Galesburg, IL, the son of Ruth Porterfield and Kevin Swearingen. As a young man Gary attended the Putnam County Schools and enjoyed working at a fish farm in Bevier, MO. Being a member of the NRA, Gary enjoyed the outdoors as a hunter and fisherman, but enjoyed the indoors as an electronic hobbyist toying constantly with movies, video games, and computers. Gary leaves an Olde English Bulldog “Serg” behind. He will be remembered as a special Uncle who was good to the kids.
Gary Swearingen is survived by his mother Ruth Porterfield of Unionville, MO and his father Kevin Swearingen of Arkansas. Gary’s grandmother, Edith Sells of Unionville also survives. Gary is survived by brothers William Porterfield and fiancée Jenna Conn of Unionville, MO; Tye Swearingen of Texas; and sister Cassie Harlan and husband Matt of Unionville, MO. Surviving uncles include Todd Sells and wife Angel, and David Sells and wife Catherine. Surviving nephews are Jayson Swearingen and Clinton Porterfield, and surviving nieces are Lillian Porterfield and Sarah Swearingen. Several aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive. In addition to family, Gary is survived by a special friend, Wendy Blue.
Gary was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ben Sells; an aunt, Phyllis Porterfield; and cousins, Mathew Porterfield, Kayla Silverio, and SueAnn Silverio.
Memorials for Gary have been suggested to the family and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
