Victor Neil Slaughter, 55 of Queen City passed away Friday (January 28, 2011) at his home in rural Queen City.
The son of Victor Junior and Janice (Muff) Slaughter, he was born July 30, 1955 in Kirksville.
Neil is survived by one sister, Linda Bowers and husband Richard of Jefferson City, MO; one brother, Larry Slaughter and wife Karen of Queen City, ten nieces and nephews, Amy (Bowers) Gaffney, Stacy (Bowers) Pointer, Kelly Bowers, Wendy (Slaughter) Williams, Rachael (Slaughter) Dudley, Christy Smyser, Tara Leedom, Eric Bowers, Austin Slaughter and Mike Leedom; and fourteen great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father on February 19, 2009, his mother on December 8, 2009, one brother, Russell Slaughter on January 8, 1996, his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. W.J. Muff and Mr. & Mrs. V.L. Slaughter.
Neil spent most of his life on a farm southeast of Queen City. He attended the Queen City and Greentop public schools and the Queen City High School, which later became Schuyler County R-I. He graduated from Schuyler R-I with the class of 1973. He worked at Burroughs in Kirksville for a number of years and was engaged in farming and raising cattle until his health failed.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday (February 5, 2011) in the Dooley Funeral Home with Pastor Sonny Smyser officiating. Musical selections will be “I Want To Stroll Over Heaven With You” and “In The Garden”. Burial will be in the Queen City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ryan McBee, Justin (Bubba) Ray, John March, Shane Rowland, Jerry Conner, Jerry Rowland, Carl McBee and David Crabtree. Honorary bearers will be Jerry Dooley, Louie McBee, Dennis Crabtree and Albert Burt.
Visitation with the family will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the
Dooley Funeral Home
