Dorothy M. Welte

Dorothy M. Welte, age 75, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Sunday, February 20, 2011, at her home in Kirksville. She was born June 21, 1935, at LaPlata, Missouri, the daughter of Ernest John and Grace Marie Nihiser Cribb. She was the fifth of six children. She had many aunts, uncles and cousins which were very important to her. She attended and graduated from LaPlata Schools. After graduating she and her sister Eva moved to Ft. Madison to work at Schaefer Pen Company. She and her sister Eva had a double wedding in 1954. She married Don Reed in LaPlata. She moved to Columbia, Missouri and worked for Shelter Insurance until 1969. She met Tom Hardy at a square dance in Novelty, Missouri and they were married in 1969 in LaPlata, Missouri. He passed away in 1996. In 1969 she went to work for Hawkins Insurance Agency, starting in Edina, Missouri and in 1980 moved to Kirksville to manage their office. She remained there until her retirement in 2004. In 2005 she married her soul mate, Loyd Welte in Kirksville; they had almost six years enjoying family, yard sales and their antique business. Dorothy was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary Post # 2508, First United Methodist Church and the local Cancer support group. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan and enjoyed bowling for many years.
Surviving are her husband Loyd of Kirksville, Missouri, five children, Debbie McCurren and husband Kent of Edina, Missouri, Dan Welte and wife Donna of Lancaster, Missouri, Mitch Welte and wife Dixie of Kirksville, Missouri, Mark Welte of Quincy, Illinois, two brothers, Lloyd Cribb and wife Betty of LaPlata, Missouri, George Cribb and wife Jo of Kirksville, Missouri, two sisters, Phyllis Birkinshaw of LaPlata, Missouri, Vi Molina LaPLata, Missouri, two grandchildren, John McCurren and Terri of Edina, Missouri, Kori McCurren of Edina, Missouri, ten gift grandchildren, twenty-two gift great grandchildren, four great grandchildren Issac, Braxton, Grant and Hannah, and several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Cheryl, sisters Arlene McInturff and Eva Hall, and one son Terry Welte.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 24, 2011, at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Kirksville, Missouri. Reverend Richard Northcutt will officiate the services. Burial will be in the LaPlata Cemetery. The V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary Post # 2508 will conduct services during the funeral services on Thursday.
Music will be provided by Margie Mitchell, organist and Steve Mitchell, soloist singing “Take My Hand Precious Lord”. Recorded selections will be “Let Her Fly”, “Angels”, “I Want to Stroll Over Heaven With You” and “How Great Thou Art”.
Casket bearers will be Kent McCurren, David Hall, Mike Wood, Ed Waters, Mitch Welte and Tim Welte.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 23, 2011, after 4 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Kirksville, Missouri.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Northeast Missouri and may be left at or mailed to Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, 2100 East Shepherd Ave., Kirksville, Missouri, 63501.
