David Ray Hart

January 16, 1949 — March 12, 2011

David Ray Hart, 62, was born on January 16, 1949, in Centerville, Iowa, to parents Stanley and Dorothy Hart. He passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, March 12, 2011.

He married Peggy Ann Munden on Dec. 11, 1971, at the Lucerne Christian Church, and they celebrated 39 anniversaries together. They are the parents of two children: son James and daughter Brette.

David grew up in Putnam County and attended Unionville Elementary and the New Enlarged School. His high school education was split between Kirksville High School and Larkin High School in Elgin, Ill., where he graduated in 1967. He studied at the University of Illinois for three years before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He served from 1970 to 1973, earning an honorable discharge as sergeant E-5.
He came back to Putnam County upon his discharge, and he and Peggy settled on the farm his parents owned, where he raised cattle and farmed for several years.

David spent the majority of his career in real estate, owning and operating Century 21 Knight Auction & Real Estate in Unionville for approximately 30 years. He also founded a self-storage business, PC Mini-Storage. He was an active member of the local Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the American Legion. He belonged to the Missouri and Iowa Realtor Associations. He had also graduated from the Fort Smith Auction School and worked for several years at local auctions.

He loved to read, especially science fiction, and from the opening of high school football season to the last game, he was a dedicated follower of the Putnam County Midgets football team. He enjoyed playing games – especially bridge. But especially enjoyed being at home with his family.
He was baptized at the Hartford Baptist Church when he was a young teen and in recent years had attended the Lucerne Christian Church.

David is survived by his wife Peggy; son James Hart; daughter Brette Humphreys and husband Greg; parents Stanley and Dorothy Hart; brother John Hart and wife Sandra; nephews Jeremiah, Josh and Jason Hart; and niece Jessica Hart; sisters-in-law Nancy and Don Summers, Barbara and Drew Rentschler, Cindy and Bret Johnson, and Linda Munden, along with many nieces and nephews.
