Carroll Clay, also known as Joe Leck, 66, of Kewanee, IL, passed away at St. Francis Hospital in Peoria, IL, on Saturday, March 12, 2011.
Carroll Dean Clay, who was also known as Joe Leck, was born in Unionville, MO, on March 11, 1945, the son of Rita Sparks and Noah Clay. He grew up with this mother and step-father, Roy Leck. He later lived in Centerville and Cincinnati, IA. Joe was disabled for most of his life, but he was an inspiring example to all to accept life without self-pity. He was loved by his family and those who knew him.
Joe is survived by a brother, George Leck, wife Carol, of Kansas City, MO; and two sisters, Sue Hill, husband Jim, of Muscatine, IA; and Lilly Stevens (whom he called “baby sister”), husband Charlie, of Unionville, MO. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Hart.
Funeral services for Joe will be at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home on Saturday, March 19 at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be from 12:30 pm until time of the service. Burial will be in the Rose Cemetery, Graysville, MO. Pastor Kevin Collins will conduct the service with recorded musical selection “Wings of a Dove.” Joe’s friends and family will serve as casket bearers.
