Betty Jane Fowler
Betty Jane Fowler, age 86, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Care Center in Unionville, MO, on Friday, April 1, 2011.
Betty Jane (Hart) Fowler was born April 29, 1924, in Mendota, MO, to Rollin F. and Iva (Clinkenbeard) Hart, who preceded her in death. She attended Livonia High School. Betty was married to Jerney Edwin Fowler on January 24, 1943 and he preceded her in death on January 27, 1980. To this union 5 sons were born: Harold Dean, Jerney Wayne, Billy Dale, Charlie Max, and Tommy Gene. Betty took great pride in her family of boys, instilling honesty and fairness as virtues for life. She became the barber of the family, seeing that her family was regularly given haircuts and taking pride in her accomplishment.
Betty and Jerney operated a farm that included raising beef cattle, milk cows, sheep, and hogs of which Betty was especially fond. She sometimes adopted and hand raised tiny ones needing special care. She collected hogs and pigs as ornaments and keepsakes for her house. Betty loved to cook and bake. Her hot rolls, pies and loaves of bread were favorites of the community as well as of her family. She adored her grandchildren and they delighted her. Making monster cookies and fishing with them were activities she enjoyed.
Betty was a loyal member of the Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church and attended regularly until moving from the farm to town. She then attended the Unionville United Methodist Church until her health failed.
Surviving are her 5 sons Harold (Carol) of Clermont, FL, Wayne (Connie) of Bettendorf IA, Bill (Jennifer) of Tampa, FL, Charlie (Colleen) of Unionville, MO, and Tom of Tucson, AZ. Ten Grandchildren also survive: Stacie, Heather, Lisa, Sara, Heidi, Chris, Brian, Chad, David and Ian, as well as 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Patrick Edward Fowler, her brothers David, Merrill, Francis, Fred and Paul Hart and her sisters Georgia Childers, Virginia Hoyt and Bonnie Glascock.
