Ethel Mureen Deeds, age 97, daughter of Newton E. and Cornellie (Brisendine) Swiger was born December 22, 1913, in Putnam County, near Unionville, MO. She passed away Sunday, April 3, 2011, at Putnam County Memorial Hospital in Unionville.
Ethel married Ester Deeds in Unionville MO, on September 26, 1936. He passed away January 23, 1975 following a nine year illness. To this union three sons were born, Ronald, Newton, and James. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Ronald Deeds on Oct 30, 1958 and Newton Deeds on September 14, 2002; two brothers, Emmett Swiger, and Earl Swiger; four sisters Dora Johnson, Ivine Christian, Lorene Grimes, and Marie Childers and; three half sisters, Gladys Swiger, and two who died in infancy.
Ethel is survived by one son, James Deeds and wife Delores of Davenport, Iowa. Six grandchildren, Sherry Trimble and husband Roger of Bates City, MO; Rhonda Jasper and husband Jeff of St. Joseph, MO; Cynthia Christenson and husband Allen of Davenport, IA; Richard Deeds of Springfield, MO; Lesa Stroup and husband Craig, Alexandria VA; and Randy Deeds and wife of Austin, TX. Ten great grandchildren also survive: Grant Trimble, Garrett Trimble and wife Natasha, Dexter Deeds and Jaggar Deeds, Jesse Current and Kasey Current and fiancé Aaron Deweese, Lauren and Tygren Stroup, Victoria and Randal Deeds. One great, great, grandson Rylan Michael Trimble, who was the love of her life, survives as well as step grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews and cousins and a host of friends.
Ethel accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in a farm pond. She attended the Parkview Church of Christ in Unionville, MO. She and Ester lived on a farm, farming, raising livestock and gardening until Ester’s health failed him in January of 1966. She was employed at Commander Box Factory in Centerville, IA, for two years and ten years at Con Agra in Milan, MO, where she retired. She then continued to do gardening and baby sit with some of her great grandchildren which she enjoyed very much. She was very much loved and will be greatly missed. She was a very special lady.
Funeral Services for Ethel Deeds will be at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, on Thursday, April 7, 1t 1:00 pm with visitation on Wednesday, April 6th from 6-8 pm. Pastor Howard Luscan will conduct the services with musical selections “Because He Lives” and “Where the Roses Never Fade.” Walter Griffen will sing accompanied by Carla Cullor. Pallbearers will be Garrett Trimble, Grant Trimble, Richard Deeds, Jaggar Deeds, Dexter Deeds, Randy Deeds, and Roger Swiger. Honorary pallbearers are Roger Trimble and Allen Christenson. Interment will be in the Unionville Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Unionville Cemetery and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
