Pamela D. Smith, 61 of Kirksville passed away Monday (April 11, 2011) at Boone Hospital in Columbia, MO.
The daughter of Howard Earl and Mildred Evelyn (Gillespie) Gross, she was born February 23, 1950 in Kirksville, MO. In June of 1966 in Kirksville she was united in marriage to Charles Lyle Anderson. On May 13, 1972 in Kirksville she was united in marriage to Richard Smith.
Pam is survived by her husband, Richard; son, Justin Smith and wife Saundra of Osceola, IA; three daughters, Chris Morris and husband Scott of Kirksville, Paula VanRie and husband Troy of Kirksville and Stacy Stephens and husband Rich of Barnhart, MO; eight grandchildren, Max, Emma, Parker, Bailey, Vanessa, Miranda, Zack and Emily; two sisters, Sharon DePuy of St. Charles, MO and Karen Rockwood of Lewisville, TX and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Michael Gross.
Pam grew up in Kirksville and attended the Kirksville schools, graduating from the Kirksville High School in 1969. She worked in her father’s medical office, Dr. Howard Gross. She then owned and operated Poor Richard’s Antique Store.
Pam was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the D.A.R. She loved collecting antiques, going to auctions, knitting and St. Louis Cardinal Baseball. She was a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader for many years. She was very active with her children and grandchildren and loved going to their ball games and school activities.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday (April 15, 2011) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Carrol Davenport officiating. Music will be provided by Lanna Novinger singing “How Can I Help You Say Goodbye” and “Amazing Grace” accompanied by Dianthe Cable. Entombment will be in Maple Hills Cemetery Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be Scott Morris, Troy VanRie, Rich Stephens, Max Stephens, Alva Martin and Jon Rockwood.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home,2100 E. Shepherd Ave. Kirksville, MO 63501 660-665-2233
