H.D. Harrison

July 10, 1951 — April 11, 2011

A much loved and respected man, Harold Davis Harrison, Jr., age 59, passed away Monday, April 11, 2011 at his home in Kirksville, Missouri. H.D. was the loving son of Harold Harrison, Sr., and Lillian Wade Harrison, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Sandra Harrison Dixon, who passed away in October of 2006. Survivors include a sister, Judy Beth Harrison, of Kirksville, and four loving nieces and nephews, all of the St. Louis area. They are David Dixon, Debbie Davidson, Linda Dixon, and Kevin Dixon.

H.D. was born, raised, and lived his entire life in Kirksville, Missouri. Graduating from Truman University, formerly Northeast Missouri State University, he was an educator in the Putman Co. R-I School District for many years, authoring a book about football during that time. Most recently, he served as the head junior high football coach for the Kirksville R-III School District, a position and responsibility he greatly treasured. H.D. was a Kirksville Tiger football player in the 1960's, achieving an All-Conference status.

H.D. loved golfing, hunting, and spending time with his many, dear friends and enjoyed the company of some special ladies during the years. He loved his family and served them admirably through the years, a great man with a heart of gold.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (April 16, 2011) at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Rick Riley, Greg Lloyd, Marty Burns, Gary Elam, Chris Jones, and Greg Murphy. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Wade, Brownie Veatch, and his golfing friends, hunting friends, educator friends, and lifelong buddies. The Reverend Richard Northcutt will conduct the ceremony, and the Vincent Family will graciously provide the music. Burial will be in Park View Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home,2100 E. Shepherd Ave.

An expression of sympathy in memory of H.D. may be made in the form of a contribution to the H.D. Harrison Scholarship Fund that will honor a selected Kirksville Tiger football player.
