Darrell E. Lloyd

Darrell E. Lloyd, 84 of Kirksville passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011, at the Boone Hospital in Columbia, MO.

The son of Vernie and Lela (Vance) Lloyd, Darrell was born September 27, 1926 in Kirksville. On February 23, 1949 in Kirksville he was united in marriage to Hallene Capps and they enjoyed 62 years of marriage.

Surviving are his wife, Hallene; five children, Steve Lloyd of Kirksville, Vickie Blackorby and husband, Lavern of Novinger, MO, Debbie Maize and husband, Tim of Kirksville, Tina Lawson and husband, David of Kirksville and David Lloyd and wife, Tracie of Peoria, IL; seventeen grandchildren, Mardi Lloyd, Amber Sanderson, Chad Maize, Caleb Pearson, Josh Pearson, Nicole Morgenstern, Joseph Allen, Megan Blackorby, Ben Lawson, Madelin Lawson, Payton Lloyd, Aiden Lloyd, Mylah Lloyd, Karla Davison, Kevin Blackorby, Keith Blackorby and Kara Blackorby; three great-grandchildren and one brother, Harold Lloyd and wife, Sharon of Gainsville, FL.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Sherry Lloyd and one brother, Verland Lloyd.

Darrell was reared in Kirksville where he attended the Kirksville public schools. In 1940 he entered the United States Navy serving on the U.S.S. Franklin CV13, during World War II and was discharged in 1942. After the service he was employed at the Missouri Power and Light Company and Vance Electric. He owned and operated Lloyd’s Furniture and Upholstery for over fifty years.

Darrell was a active member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Kirksville. He was an avid fan of many types of sports. He loved his family, wife and was a good father and friend to all.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Mark Hager officiating. Musical selections will be “How Great Thou Art” and “In The Garden”. Burial with military rites will be in the Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville.

Pallbearers will be Tim Maize, David Lawson, Lavern Blackorby, Chad Maize, Joseph Allen and Ben Lawson. Honorary bearers will be Stacy Morgenstern, Josh Pearson, Caleb Pearson, Kevin Blackorby, Keith Blackorby and Charlie Davison.

The family has suggested memorials to the Chariton Valley Association for Handicapped Citizens.
