Mary Elizabeth Jones, 93, of Lucerne, Missouri passed away at the Putnam County Care Center on April 16, 2011. She had been a resident for 3 weeks.
Mary Jones was born on June 2, 1917, the daughter of Otto Edgar Weir and Edith Edna (Hamilton) Weir. Shortly after high school Mary Elizabeth married Orval Noah Jones and 12 children were born to this union. Orval preceded her in death in the spring of 1984. Mary enjoyed diligently providing for her family. She knew the art of carefully caring for a garden then canning the produce for the winter months to follow. Mary was a gifted quilter and shared these treasures with her family and friends. Mary also enjoyed fishing, cooking, and playing cards and was a member of the Missouri Extension Homemakers Association.
Mary Jones is survived by 5 sons and 2 daughters. Her sons include Clifford Jones and wife Shirley of Mercer, MO; Bill Jones and wife Cathy of Williamsburg, MO; Sam Jones and wife Nancy of Unionville, MO; Steve Jones and wife Glenda of Unionville, MO; and Dave Jones of Lucerne, MO. Her surviving daughters are Nora Putney and husband Tony of Indianola, IA and Janice Barnes and husband Ronnie of Denton, TX. Mary is survived by 19 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by sons, Larry Jones and Eric Jones; daughter, Bonnie Keener; and 2 infant children. Mary was also preceded in death by a brother, Harry Weir, and sisters, Hazel Currin and Elsie Hamilton.
Memorials for Mary are suggested to the Evergreen Cemetery and may be entrusted to the Playle & Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
Mary’s funeral service will be held at the Playle & Jones Chapel in Unionville, MO on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 2:00pm and her visitation will begin one hour prior to her service. Internment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Lineville, IA.
