Betty Lou Bleything, 82 of Brashear passed away Thursday (May 5, 2011) at her home.
The daughter of Joseph Pearl and Mildred Marie (Scott) Smith, she was born May 26, 1928 in Kirksville, MO. On May 10, 1953 in LaPlata, MO she was united in marriage to Frank Edward Bleything.
Betty grew up in Kirksville where she attended school and graduated from the Kirksville High School in 1946. She worked for the Florsheim Shoe Factory until after her marriage when she began her family and was a mother and homemaker. In 1983 she went to work for Sodexo as a cook in food service at Truman State University where she worked until she retired in 2010.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crochet, need point and loved to travel. She loved her kids and grandkids and enjoyed spending time with them.
Betty is survived by her children, Joseph Edward Bleything of Kirksville, Ricki Dale Bleything and wife Tammy of Brashear, Candice Meshele Quaite of Piedmont, MO and Todd Michael Bleything and wife Pam of Brashear, MO; fourteen grandchildren, Nathan James, Joseph Jo, Kayshe Beth, Dona Lynette, Cheston Edward, Sasha Dawn, Mathew William, Aubrey Michelle, Amber Lynn, Haley Jeanne, Kyle Allen, Cody Lea, Michaelea Breanne, and Jacob Michael; eleven great grandchildren; one brother, Bobby Jo Smith of LaPlata, MO; and two nephews, one niece and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, James Howard Bleything on March 12, 2008.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday (May 9, 2011) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Virgil K. Jones officiating. Musical selections will be “Crying In The Chapel” and “How Great Thou Art”. Burial will be in Yarrow Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Markeson, Kyle Mann, Jacob Bleything, Nathan Bleything, Mathew Bleything and Josh Bleything. Honorary bearers will be John Dahlman and Charles Chace.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home 2100 E. Shepherd Ave. Kirksville, MO 63501 660-665-2233
