Wanda Dale, 67, formerly of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Genesis Medical Center in Moline, IL, on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, after a year-long battle with cancer.
Wanda Caroll (Schoonover) Dale was born in Jefferson, IA, on December 1, 1943, the daughter of Francis and Mary LaVetta (Liberknecht) Schoonover, who preceded her in death. She moved to Lemons, MO, with her parents as a young child. Wanda attended schools in Putnam County and then graduated from High School in Wichita, KS. She met Robert Dale, Jr., and they were married in Wichita on May 11, 1963. He preceded her in death on February 13, 2008.
Robert was in the US Marine Corp and Wanda followed him from base to base until he retired in 1980 when they moved to Lemons and opened a ceramic shop. Wanda and Robert moved to the state of California in 1984 where they managed in a group of hotel chains. They moved back to Lemons in 1991 and then to Unionville in 1999. Wanda and Robert moved to Kirksville, MO, in 2007. Wanda had lived in Moline, IL, the past two years where she enjoyed traveling.
Wanda loved to travel and to do anything fun. She liked country music and dancing. She was an avid reader of mystery books and of the Bible. She was very family oriented. Wanda had a warm and friendly personality and knew how to make people feel accepted and comfortable around her.
Wanda is survived by a daughter, Kodi Hirsch of Unionville, MO, and a son, Robert Dale, III and his wife Heidi of Des Moines, IA. Seven grandchildren also survive: Robert Dale, IV, Sarah Dale, Raymond Dale, Megan Hirsch, and Carol Rouse, Joshua Coats, Daniel Coats. Four great grandchildren survive: Jackson Coats, James & Serenity Surber, and Trinity Coats. Two sisters survive as well, Fran Herrick and husband Dwight of Excelsior Springs, MO, and Mary Gesi of Holt, MO.
In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Rick Gesi.
Funeral services for Wanda Dale will be held at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 11:00 am. Interment will be in the Lemons Cemetery south of Unionville.
