Virginia Fechtling Guffey

Virginia Fechtling Guffey age 82 of Kirksville passed away Friday (May 13, 2011) at Twin Pines Adult Care Center.

The daughter of Pearl and Wanda (Sanders) Fechtling, she was born January 3, 1929 near Martinstown, MO in Putnam County.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pearl and Wanda Fechtling and one brother, Howard Fechtling.

Virginia is survived by her son, Gregory D. Guffey, daughter-in-law, Lori Guffey, her granddaughter, Chloey Guffey; nephews, Dana Fechtling and wife LaDonna and Dennis Fechtling and wife Terri. Also surviving are many relatives and friends.

Virginia lived most of her life in Kirksville with the exception of her early life near Martinstown, MO. She attended Hustead Rural School, and also attended Unionville School before being transferred to the Kirksville School district. She graduated from the Kirksville Senior High School with the class of 1946. She graduated from Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State University) in 1950. She received the Bachelor of Science degree and the Bachelor of Science degree in Education. She taught school for several years and was in business with her son for 25 years owning and operating the Guffey Honda and Kawasaki Sales and Service motorcycle franchised dealerships. She was a successful business woman and sold thousands of motorcycles and atv’s to thousands of satisfied and loyal customers.

She attended the Meadow Brook Christian Church. She enjoyed traveling, having visited all of the United States and many foreign countries.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday (May 16, 2011) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. Musical selections will be “Wind Beneath My Wings” and “My Way”. Burial will be in Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville.

Pallbearers will be Dana Fechtling, Dennis Fechtling, Tysen Lawson, Eric King, Mike Hatfield and Reo Haynes.

Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, 2100 E. Shepherd Ave. Kirksville, MO 63501 660-665-2233
