Henderson Jacob (Jake) Crane, 89 of Columbia passed away Tuesday (May 17, 2011) at The Bluffs in Columbia.
The son of Les and Opal (McCoy) Crane, he was born December 13, 1921 in Boone County, MO. On January 19, 1963 in Kirksville, MO he was united in marriage to Betty Treasure.
Jake is survived by his wife, Betty of Columbia; three sons, Anthony E. Crane and wife Trisha of Quincy, IL, Dan Sanders and wife Colleen of Millersburg, MO and Darrell J. Crane of Jefferson City, MO; fourteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, David Treasure and a son in infancy; three brothers, Raymond, Darrell and Leon and one sister, Estelle.
Jake grew up and attended school in Boone County, MO. He managed grocery stores in Moberly and Kirksville. He then sold insurance in the Kirksville, Hannibal, Quincy and Moberly areas until he retired. After retirement he was a people greeter at Wal-Mart in Kirksville and Columbia for 17 years.
Jake played semi pro baseball in the 1940’s and 1950’s. He enjoyed playing fast pitch softball into the 1970’s and slow pitch softball into the 1980’s. He also enjoyed playing golf and fishing. He was a member of the Kirksville Moose Lodge.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday (May 21, 2011) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Virgil K. Jones officiating. Burial will be in Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, 2100 E. Shepherd Ave., Kirksville, Mo 63501 660-665-2233
