Jerry D. Brandenburg, 72, of Novinger, passed away Tuesday (May 17, 2011) at Northeast Regional Medical Center, in Kirksville surrounded by family and friends.
The son of Charles B. “Buddy” Brandenburg and Ruby L. (Stewart) Brandenburg Mulanix Worthington, he was born on July 29, 1938 in Kirksville. On January 14, 1967 in Kirksville he was united in marriage to Barbara S. (Osborn) and to this union three children were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and a brother-in-law, Marilyn Phillips and Thomas L. Phillips Jr.
In addition to his wife, Barbara, he is survived by two daughters; Loretta L. Groseclose and husband, James N. Groseclose and Lori L. Brandenburg, all of Kirksville; one son, Jason H. Brandenburg and his special friend, Diana Modaff of Novinger. Two granddaughters: Whitney G. Glaspie, of Ethel and Kyra L. Glaspie of Kirksville; three great granddaughters, Harley Q. Cook, Raven N. Matthew and Valaska R. Cook, all of Ethel; one great grandson, Christian N. Glaspie of Kirksville; one sister, Shirley M. Westmoreland of Kirksville; a sister-in-law, Vickie L.
He was raised in and around Adair County before he joined the United States Navy and served for four years aboard the USS Hancock and the USS Randolph, receiving an honorable discharge. He also served two years of reserve duty. He worked throughout the entire Adair County region for over 40 years doing custom carpentry and helping to build many houses and businesses with area contractors. He was a master carpenter who enjoyed watching old western movies, working on his trucks, reading, building various types of furniture and he especially enjoyed his granddaughters and great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday (May 22, 2011) at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, with Dan Todd officiating. Interment will follow the service at Forest-Llewellyn Cemetery in Kirksville.
