Howard L. Raef, 79 of Lucerene, MO passed away Tuesday (June 14, 2011) at Milan Health Care in Milan, MO.
The son of Fred and Alta M. (Wallace) Raef, he was born September 30, 1931 in Prescott, KS. On April 5, 1954 in Mount City, KS he was united in marriage to Mildred Sue Rittinghouse and she preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Howard is survived five children, Freda Mae Allen of Leavenworth, KS, Linda Legendre of Raytown, MO, Kathy Cartee and husband Scott of Holt, MO, Howard R. Raef and Twyla Lunsford of Lucerene, MO and Douglas L. Raef and wife Chris of Unionville, MO; one sister, Kathleen Raef of Milan, MO; nine grandchildren, Nichole Grimpo, Tabitha Richardson, Jesse Hensrud, Johnnie Howell, Bobby Howell, Sara Hensrud, Janet Hensrud, Mary Tipton and Erica Raef; and several great grandchildren.
Howard grew up in Prescott, Kansas and at the age of 12 he began a milk route until age 18. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict from December of 1951 until December of 1953. He worked milking cows and then ran a truck line, Raef Truck line until going to work for a John Deere Dealer. He then worked for Consolidated Freight Way in Overland Park, Kansas for 21 years until he retired. He moved to the Pollock, MO area and after he retired he ran cattle and did custom hay work.
He was a member of the American Legion and loved to hunt.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday (June 21, 2011) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. Entombment will be in Park View Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
