Paul Putnam Barnes, 86, of Versailles, MO, passed away on June 14, 2011 at the St. Mary’s Medical Center in Jefferson City.
Paul Barnes was born on December 22, 1924 in Putnam County, MO, the son of Aubrey and Nellie (Putnam) Barnes. Paul attended the Powersville High School and then served his country in the United States Army. Following his service Paul made a career in the Quad Cities as an engineer for the railroad for 37 years then moved to Versailles, MO. Retirement was never an option for Paul because working was his way of life. He drove semis, but was talented enough to fix or build anything, at anytime, for anybody in need. Paul rarely missed a family event or reunion. His honest word was his bond and his pride was his family. He will be dearly missed.
Paul is survived by his children Valerie Fuessel (Scott) of Bentondorf, IA; Randy Barnes (Helen) of Colona, IL; Patricia Malmstrom (“Z”) of Colona, IL; Tammy Grimes of Des Moines, IA; Jody Strajack (Matt) of Davenport, IA; Terry Grimes of Davenport, IA; and Mark Barnes of Versailles, MO. Paul’s surviving brothers include Jess Harper of Versailles, MO; Claire Barnes of Silvis, IA; and Bob Harper (Shirley) of East Moline, IL. His surviving sisters are Katie Mudd of Pace, FL and Marie Sharp of Carlsbad, TX. Paul is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Paul was proceded in death by his first wife Barbara Barnes, then Margaret Barnes.
Memorial for Paul are suggested to the family and may be entrusted to the Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
