Rocky Burns, 50, of Unionville, MO, passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, after a battle with cancer.
Rocky Lee Burns was born in Peoria, IL, on September 27, 1960, the son of Ralph and Margariet Burns, who preceded him in death. Rocky and his family moved to Unionville when he was a young boy and he attended Unionville schools. He then went to work in the Burns Family Construction business where they were engaged in all kinds of business and residential construction.
Rocky enjoyed playing pool as well as collecting antiques and other collectibles. He liked to attend auctions and found a challenge in finding bargains. He watched western movies and police dramas and also liked to watch informative historical programs. Rocky was a member of First Baptist Church in Unionville.
Rocky is survived by Shirley Veskrna, his companion of 16 years and her children whom Rocky thought of as his own: Derek Isbell of Kentucky, Christian Isbell of Joplin, MO, and Casey Isbell of Unionville, MO. Rocky is also survived by his brothers, Eddie (Thracie) Burns of Queen City, MO, and Carl Burns of Unionville, MO; and his sister, Jo Ann Carter of Unionville, MO. Surviving nieces and nephews include Seth Carter, Adrian Carter, Haylee Burns, Brandon Burns, and Megan Mendenhall. An aunt, Joyce Cullum of Unionville, MO, also survives as well as several cousins. Rocky will be missed by his dog Skippy and his cat Tom.
Others who preceded Rocky in death are uncles Earl Burns and Bob Cullum and his grandparents Ed and Edna Burns.
Funeral services for Rocky Burns will be at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, on Thursday, June 30, 2011, at 2:30 pm with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Unionville Cemetery.
