Alyne Lee McConnell passed away Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the NorthCare Hospice House affiliated with the North Kansas City Hospital. She suffered a stroke on July 1, 2011 and was admitted to St. Lukes Hospital in Kansas City from the Excelsior Springs Nursing and Rehab Center in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, where she resided since August 25, 2010. From St. Lukes Hospital, she was transferred to the NorthCare Hospice House on July 6. 2011.
Mrs. McConnell was born October 13, 1925 in Greencastle, Missouri to Allen and Lucy Smith. Her youth was spent in Elmira and Lawson, Missouri where she graduated from high school. She married John D. McConnell in Kirksville on July 10, 1950. She is survived by one son, Jerry Sharp and daughter-in-law, Sylvia Sharp of Austin, TX. She is survived by two grandchildren, Jason Sharp of San Antonio, TX and Cynthia McMahon of Yucaipa, CA and 4 great grandchildren, Sofia, Emily, Nicole, and Jeremiah. She is also survived by her brother, Marvin H. (Bud) Smith and sister-in-law Betty Smith. She is survived by her niece and nephew, Debbie and Steve Michael; nephews and nieces, Tim and Debbie Smith, Deniese and Darrold Pettiecord, and Phil Smith & family. Her niece Debbie Michael was much like a daughter to her and was assisted in caretaking by many grand nieces and grand nephews, all of whom loved her dearly.
She lived much of her life in Kansas City and Independence, Missouri. She worked for many years at the Parmalee Plastics Company. She worked there so long she watched the children of the President of the Company grow up and take over management of the Company. She last worked in housekeeping at the Kansas City Life Insurance Company until her retirement in 1989. After the death of her husband, John, she moved to Kirksville in 1994 where she lived at the Shockey Trailer Court. She moved to Lawson, Missouri in 2005 to be closer to family.
She has requested graveside service at Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, John D. McConnell. Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2011.
