Virginia Valentine, 88, of Sheldon, MO, (formerly of Unionville, MO) passed away at the Freeman Hospital in Joplin, MO, on Saturday, July 16, 2011.
Mary Virginia (Hoover) Valentine was born in Unionville, MO, on February 26, 1923, the daughter of Linsey Lawrence and Zula Vista (Lemley) Hoover, who preceded her in death. She attended elementary school and high school in Unionville, graduating from Unionville High School in 1941. On February 14, 1951, she married Clell Valentine and he preceded her in death on April 4, 1998. Virginia then moved to Sheldon, MO, to be near her family.
Virginia and Clell began married life in Lucerne, MO, but then moved to a place just east of Unionville. Virginia worked as a cook and in housekeeping at Putnam County Memorial Hospital for 30 years. She retired upon Clell’s death and moved to Sheldon. Virginia loved to raise a large vegetable garden and can the produce of her labor. She also enjoyed quilting.
Virginia Valentine is survived by two daughters, Pamela Valentine of Tulsa, OK, and Paula Feldman and her husband, Chuck, of Sheldon, MO. A grandson, Brian Feldman, and his wife, Melody, also survive and they are expecting Virginia’s first great grandchild. Virginia is also survived by a sister, Valee Gleason, of Haysville, KS.
Others who preceded Virginia in death were a brother, Raymond Hoover, her twin brother, Verlin Gary Hoover, who died in infancy, and a sister, Anna Kathleen Hoover, who also passed away in infancy.
Graveside services for Mary Virginia Valentine will be held at the Lucerne Cemetery on Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at 10:00 am with visitation Tuesday, July 19th, 2011, at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.
Memorials for Viriginia are suggested to the Sheldon Christian Church and may be entrusted with Playle & Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th, Unionville, MO 63565.
