Mary Hartford
Mary Hartford, 79, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Care Center in Unionville, MO, on Sunday, July 24, 2011. She recently had been battling cancer.
Mary Elizabeth (Jacobs) Hartford was born in Unionville, MO, on September 27, 1931, the daughter of Fred and Ruth (Ralston) Jacobs, who preceded her in death. She attended public schools in Unionville and graduated from Unionville High School in 1949. She was briefly employed in Rockford, IL, where her sister lived. On January 28, 1951, she married Kenneth Hartford in Unionville, MO, and he passed away on June 21, 2010.
Mary and Kenny began their married life on a farm south of Unionville and lived there until 1981 when they bought a place east of Unionville and lived there for 28 years before moving to town. Mary liked to garden, especially growing beautiful flowers. She was an avid reader, liked to work crossword puzzles and was engaged in quilting in her younger years. She loved spending time with her family, especially preparing large meals for special occasions. Mary enjoyed singing with the church choir and with the Keynotes. Her faith was very important to her and she was an active member at the Unionville United Methodist Church.
Mary Hartford is survived by daughter Edith Haffner of Kirksville, MO; Lee Hartford and Bobbi Galloway of Manhattan, KS; and John Hartford and Denise of Humboldt, IA. Her surviving grandchildren are Joe Haffner, Adam Hartford and Kim, Ryan Hartford and Kristy, and Andrew Galloway. Great grandchildren are Grace and Collin Hartford and Leah and Nicole Hartford. Mary is also survived by two brothers, George Jacobs of Senatobia, MS, and Bill Jacobs and Barbara of Raleigh, NC; and two sisters, Mildred Jones-Marshall of Las Cruces, NM, and Margaret Villa of Williamsburg, VA.
In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Jacobs, and a son-in-law Mike Haffner.
Funeral services for Mary Hartford will be at the Unionville United Methodist Church in Unionville, MO, on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at 11:00 with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Unionville Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Unionville United Methodist Church and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
