William V. Cundiff

William V. Cundiff, 82 of Kirksville passed away Thursday (July 28, 2011) at his home.

William was born on Thanksgiving day, November 29, 1928, the son of O. Vincil (Jack) Cundiff and Kathleen Young Cundiff, in Kirksville, Missouri.

On June 18, 1960 he was married to Doris N. Gardner who survives. Also surviving are sons, Barry V. Cundiff of Kirksville, and Dr. Kirby R. Cundiff, of Tulsa, OK; daughter-in-law, Audrey; grandson, Brody; sister, Nancy Boren of Centraila, MO; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bruce and Carol Collier of Kirksville, and Joe and Justine Stewart of Texas; eighteen nieces and nephews.

He was preceded him in death by brother-in-law, Chester Boren; sister-in-law, Evonne Mills, three uncles, two aunts and one niece and his parents.

He graduated from Kirksville High School and enlisted in the Army where he was assigned do the military section of the Atomic Weapons Project. In 1950 he was recalled to active service and was in Korea during that war in 1950 and 1951, with a unit of 8th Army. He attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College and received a BsEd and MA. In 1955 he opened the Cundiff Insurance Agency and continued the agency for 55 years when illness forced his retirement.

During his career he was President of the Missouri Association of Insurance Agents (PIA), President of the Kirksville Jaycess, Board member of the Kirksville Chamber of Commerce, Member and Chairman of the Kirksville Planning and Zoning Commission, Secretary and President of Spring Lake Inc., Treasurer of El Kadir Shrine Club, Adair Lodge #366 AF & AM, Caldwell Chapter 53 RAM, Kirksville Council 44 RSM and Ely Commandry KT.

Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday August 6, 2011 at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 5, 2011 family will greet friends at that time. Masonic service at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Kirksville,MO.

Memorials are suggested to the Shriners Children Hospotal. Memorial may be left at or sent to the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, 2100 E. Shepherd Ave., Kirksville, MO 63501.
