Kenneth Torrey
Kenneth Torrey, 80, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Memorial Hospital in Unionville on Wednesday, August 17, 2011.
Kenneth Dwaine Torrey was born in Mercer County, MO, on November 9, 1930, the son of Cloise and Lennah (McHargue) Torrey, who preceded him in death. He moved to Putnam County as a youngster and graduated from Unionville High School in 1948. Kenneth entered the United States Marine Corp in 1952 and served during the Korean War, being stationed in Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1954 with the rank of corporal.
On December 30, 1955, Kenneth married Dorothy Morris in Independence, MO, and she survives at home. After beginning married life in Kansas City, Kenneth and Dorothy soon made their way back to Putnam County where they lived, farmed, and reared their two daughters, Cindy and Joyce, east of Unionville. Kenneth retired from the farm and moved to Unionville in 1993. He continued to drive a school bus as he had done for several years, until retiring from that just a few years before he passed away. He had also recently worked for McCalment Farms in Unionville before declining health forced him to quit.
Kenneth liked to hunt quail with his bird dogs and liked to fish. He was a frequent part of the coffee crowd at the Sale Barn Café where he was well liked. Kenneth was baptized into the Church of Christ and was a member of the Grant Street Church of Christ. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Unionville.
In addition to his wife, Kenneth is survived by daughters Cindy Torrey of Gladstone, MO, and Joyce Lochhead and her husband David of St. Joseph, MO. A granddaughter, Jennifer Lochhead also survives, as well as a brother, Frank Torrey of Edwardsville, KS, and two sisters, Wava Sexton of Kansas City, KS, and Karen Torrey of Unionville, MO.
Funeral services for Kenneth Torrey will be at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, on Saturday, August 20, 2011, at 2:00 pm with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Unionville Cemetery.
Memorials for Kenneth are suggested to the PC Café and Resource Center and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
