Wilma Murphy, 68, of Powersville, MO, passed away suddenly at the Wayne County Hospital Emergency Room in Corydon, IA, on August 23, 2011.
Wilma Dorothy (Garten) Murphy was born in Centerville, IA, on June 14, 1943, the daughter of John and Nellie (Snyder) Garten, who preceded her in death. She attended elementary school at the country school houses of Hillcrest and St. John, and also in Powersville. She graduated from Unionville High School in 1962.
Wilma married Wayne Murphy in Unionville, MO, on March 5, 1962 and he survives at home in rural Powersville. Wayne and Wilma made their home on the farm northeast of Powersville where they reared their four children: Connie, Craig, Curt, and Cindy. Wilma’s greatest pleasures in life were quilting, gardening, and canning vegetables from her garden. She was active in community affairs in Powersville and loved spending time with her four grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Wilma is survived by her four children: Connie Davis and husband Bobby of Corydon, IA; Craig Murphy and wife Shelly, Curt Murphy, and Cindy Murphy, all of Powersville, MO. Her grandchildren are Levi Davis, Zachary Davis, Bryce Murphy, and Kelsey Murphy. Wilma is also survived by a brother, Howard Garten and wife Rochelle and a sister, Maxine Kincaid, all of Powersville. Sisters-in-law Glenda Roy and Rogene Torrey and her husband Bert also survive as well as numerous friends and relatives by which she will be missed.
Funeral services for Wilma Murphy will be at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, Unionville, MO, on Saturday, August 27, 2011, at 1:00 pm with a visitation on Friday, August 26, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Interment will be in the Powersville Cemetery, Powersville, MO.
Memorials for Wilma are suggested to the Powersville Community Center and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
