Anna Catherine (Funk) Wigal, 97 of Kirksville entered into eternal rest Tuesday evening (August 30, 2011) at her home surrounded by loving family and friends.
She was born October 30, 1913 in Brashear, MO, the daughter of Claude and Merle (Moore) Funk. She married the love of her life Harold H. Wigal on October 8, 1933 and to this union three children were born, Sandra, Dennis and Sheryl.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, her parents, one son, Dennis Wigal and one brother, V. Dean Funk.
Catherine is survived by her daughters, Sandi Rushing and husband, John of Banning, CA and Sheri Povendo and husband Terry of Manchester, MO; her grandchildren, Trey Rushing and wife Kelly of Dayton, OH, Rick Povendo of St. Louis, MO, Jeff Rushing and wife Shannon of Kirksville, Joel Rushing and wife Courtney of LaVerne, CA, Jerry Rushing and wife Kristine of Ann Arbor, MI, Chris Povendo and wife Stephanie of Ardmore, OK, and Amanda Wigal-Schlosser and husband Jeremy of Scottsdale, AZ and nineteen great grandchildren.
Catherine was raised and attended school in Hurdland and graduated from Hurdland High School in 1931 as valedictorian. She briefly attended college at Kirksville State Teachers College and later received her license in cosmetology. Soon after her marriage to Harold, they moved to southern California, but soon returned to Missouri after experiencing an earthquake. She worked at Gardner-Collier Jewelry Store for 28 years.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Nebulae, Sojourners, 2nd Contempory Club, Mothers Home Club, Order of the Eastern Star, R.S.V.P., and the D.A.R.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 3, 2011) at the First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Michael McCormack officiating. Entombment will be in the Maple Hills Cemetery Mausoleum in Kirksville.
Pallbearers will be Trey Rushing, Rick Povendo, Jeff Rushing, Lt. Commander Jerry Rushing, Chris Povendo and Amanda Wigal-Schlosser.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home 2100 E. Shepherd Ave. Kirksville, MO 63501 660-665-2233
Memorials in memory of Catherine are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church or Hospice of Northeast Missouri.
