Darlene B. Floyd, 78 of Brashear, MO passed away Sunday (Sept. 4, 2011) at Northeast Regional Medical Center.
The daughter of George F. and Velma V. (Kimmel) Walker, she was born April 15, 1933 in Putnam County, MO. On August 5, 1950 in Kirksville she was united in marriage to Charles E. Floyd.
Darlene is survived by her husband, Charles; her children, Rayna Ihnat and husband George of Brashear, MO, Lisa Wilson and husband John of Des Moines, IA, Eric Floyd and wife Rhonda of Russiaville, IN and Teresa Creason and husband Joie of Brashear, MO; eleven grandchildren, Stephanie Timmerman, Jonathan Norfolk, Tom Ihnat, James Ihnat, Jennifer Stone, Kelly Smith, Rachel Lytle, Tad Floyd, Jonathan Floyd, Shelbie and Miranda Creason; twelve great grandchildren; two brothers, Ronnie Walker and Berdean Walker; one sister, Carolene Bauer; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter and son-in-law, Valleri and Larry Norfolk; grandson, Douglas Wayne Norfolk; and brothers, Robert and Gary Walker.
Darlene grew up in Putnam County and attended a one room school in Hartford, MO and later attended the Brashear School. She spent many years raising her family and being a homemaker. At the age of 45 she earned her G.E.D. and later received her C.N.A. License and Med. Tech License. She worked at Kirksville Manor Care and at Kirksville Residential Care. She worked at the AHEC office at A.T. Still University until she retired.
She was a member of the New Hope Evangelical Church. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved family gatherings, spoiling her grandkids, gardening, flowers, cooking and mowing. She had a special of way making something from nothing.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 10, 2011) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Darrell Draper officiating. Burial will be in Park View Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Mark Bradshaw, Gail Curtis, Kenny Walker, Wayne Walker, Bruce Floyd and Travis Floyd. Honorary Bearers will be Randall Floyd and Steve Walker.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, 2100 E. Shepherd Ave. Kirksville, MO 63501 660-665-2233
