Jack Cowan

Jack Cowan, 87, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Care Center in Unionville on Monday. September 12, 2011. He had been a resident there for just a few days.
Ora William “Jack” Cowan was born in Plano, IA, on March 18, 1924, the son of Lee and Coral (Main) Cowan who preceded him in death. He was reared in Putnam County and attended country schools there. On January 20, 1942, he married Letha Marie Hudson in Unionville, MO, and she preceded him in death on June 12, 2005.
Jack had his own trucking business freighting grain and various produce items. He then farmed and raised cattle in the Omaha area of Putnam County as well as being a cattle order buyer. He worked sale barns in north Missouri. Jack retired in 2007 and moved to Unionville from Marceline, MO. Jack enjoyed fishing and had a special fondness for catfish.
Jack is survived by children Norene Jarvis and husband John of Cincinnati, IA; Linda Dunlap of Unionville, MO; Perry Cowan and wife Carol of Springfield, MO; and Gerold Cowan and wife Joyce of Meadville, MO. Thirteen grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren also survive as well as a brother, Gene Cowan and his wife Anna of Unionville, MO, and two sisters, Nora Laughry and husband Bill of Creve Cour, IL, and Margie McCarthy and husband Paul of Omaha, NE.
Jack was also preceded in death by two brothers, Gerold and Kermit Cowan.
Graveside services for Jack Cowan will be held at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Cincinnati, IA, on Saturday, September 17, 2011, at 10:30 am. There will be no visitation. Pastor Howard Luscan will conduct the service with recorded musical selection “Go Rest High on that Mountain.” Casket bearers will be Shane Jarvis, Colton Hardy, Tony Hoskins, Steve Hardy, James Cowan, and Brent Cowan. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Cincinnati, IA.
Memorials are suggested to Pleasant Hill Cemetery and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
