Trusten Martin

Trusten Martin, 86, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Milan Health Care Facility on Monday, September 12, 2011, after he had been a resident there for several years.
Trusten Marshall Martin was born in Unionville, MO, on January 1, 1925, the son of Neal and Blanche (Gillum) Martin, who preceded him in death. He was reared in Putnam County and graduated from Unionville High School in 1942. On February 16, 1944 he married Beatrice “Bea” Yount in Unionville, MO, and she preceded him in death on December 6, 2006.
Trusten entered the United States Army on February 19, 1944 and served his country until being honorably discharged on May 11, 1946. He was a radar mechanic during the war. He returned to Unionville following his discharge where he entered the Gas and Electrical business with his father and brother, Bob Martin. Trusten worked for Uregas in Kirksville after they sold their business and later worked for Lockridge Hatchery in Unionville. He then raised pheasants for Missouri Mining.
Trusten was active in community affairs, having served on the Putnam County School Board and as a volunteer fire fighter. He also taught electricity for local 4-H clubs and was an active scuba diver. He liked to hunt, fish, and collect guns as well as ride motorcycles. He was an excellent provider for his family and was always willing to help them in any way.
Trusten is survived by children Deena Collins and husband John of Lucerne, MO; Sue Ann Varner and husband Bob; Jana Lewis and husband Larry; and Rick Martin, all of Unionville, MO. His grandchildren are Rhonda Henshaw, Eric Varner, Angie Pearson, Chad Varner, Natalie Hunt, Shannon Bain, Lynsey Seaton, Molly Knowles, and Tyler Martin. Twelve great grandchildren survive as well as several nieces and nephews.
Trusten was preceded in death by his brother, Bob Martin, his sister, Maxine Richardson, a son-in-law, Ronnie Hofstetter, and a nephew, Tom Martin.
Funeral services for Trusten Martin will be at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, on Thursday, September 15, 2011, at 2:00 pm with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Unionville Cemetery, Unionville, MO.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Milan Health Care Facility and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
