Charlyne Stroud, 75, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Boone Hospital Center on Monday, September 19, 2011.
Charlyne June (Ward) Stroud was born in Unionville, MO, on June 14, 1936, the daughter of Charles “Charley” and Amel ( Putnam) Ward, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Unionville High School in 1954 and on December 24, 1956, she married Lue Stroud in Unionville, MO. He preceded her in death on January 19, 2005.
Charlyne and Lue lived in Alaska from 1957-1959 while Lue was in the service. They returned to Unionville where they spent their married life. Charlyne worked for many years at the Sears store in Unionville. She also took in ironing at her home and worked at restaurants in Unionville.
She was active in her community, visiting nursing homes and helping with Meals on Wheels. She was an active member of the Unionville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crocheting and needlework and was an avid fan of Mizzou basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and she and Lue traveled often to watch their grandkids participate in sports and other activities.
Charlyne is survived by her daughter, Cindy Robinson and her husband, Phil, of LaPlata, MO, and her son Gary Stroud and his wife Shannon of Excelsior Springs, MO. Her grandchildren are Jesse Stroud, Leigha Stroud, Mariah Lock, Zachary Robinson, and Jordan Marie Robinson and her great grand children are Tate & Trace Lock and Kennady Robinson. Charlyne is also survived by a sister, Marilyn Van Dyne and husband Darwin of Greenville, SC.
Charlyne was also preceded in death by two sisters, Joetha Johnson and Marjorie Darlene Ward, who died at the age of two.
Funeral services for Charlyne Stroud will be at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home on Thursday, September 22, 2011, at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Unionville Cemetery, Unionville, MO.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Unionville United Methodist Church and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th, Unionville, MO.
