Beulah Markham, 93 of Kirksville passed away Thursday (Sept. 22, 2011) at Twin Pines Adult Care Center.
The daughter of James Lee and Effie Jane (Eberting) Dore, she was born October 20, 1917 in Deepwater, Henry County, Missouri. On February 12, 1938 Beulah was united in marriage to I.E. “Mark” Markham and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Pauline Ross; one brother, Jim Dore and one nephew, Stephen Dore.
Beulah is survived by her daughter, Joan Sorrell and husband T.W. of Kirksville; one granddaughter, Sherri Robison and husband Keith of Hannibal, MO; four great grandchildren, Collin Dobson, Devan Dobson, Rachel Deming and Jonathan Robison; one great-great grandchild, Elizabeth Deming; one sister, Virginia Jaiser of Kimberly City, MO; five nephews, Russell Jaiser, Ronald Ross, Pat Ross, Donald Dore and Randy Dore; and four nieces, Barbara Phillips, Belinda Dore, Linda Ross and Margaret Jane King.
Beulah graduated from the Kirksville High School with the class of 1937. Beulah and Mark owned and operated a hotel in Red Lake Falls, Minnesota and then owned and operated the Northern Lights Resort in Ontario, Canada. They moved to Kirksville and purchased the Kirksville Typewriter Exchange and later became Markham’s, a children’s clothing store that she ran until she retired.
She was a charter member and very active in the Quota Club, was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she was a past worthy Matron and went to the Grand Chapter in Kansas City. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a member of the Shrine Jewels and the 1st Contemporary Club. She sang with the Sweet Adeline’s and enjoyed to travel.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday (Sept. 26, 2011) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Don Noble officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hills Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Collin Dobson, Keith Robison, Jonathan Robison and Barry Herron. Honorary bearers will be members of Quota Club, Harvey Young, Rachel Deming and Devan Dobson.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, 2100 E. Shepherd Ave., Kirksville, MO 63501 660-665-2233
Memorials in memory of Beulah can be made to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
