Lola Morgan
Lola Morgan passed away at the Putnam County Care Center on Thursday, September 22, 2011. She was 92 years of age.
Lola May Morgan was born in rural Mendota, MO, on April 27, 1919, the daughter of Earnest Delbert and Lillie Bell (Baugher) White, who preceded her in death. She was reared in Putnam County, MO, and married Byron H. Morgan in Putnam County on December 24, 1935. He preceded her in death on April 7, 1999.
Lola spent most of her life as a homemaker and farmer’s wife. Besides occasional times for work in Yakima, WA, she and Byron lived in rural Putnam County, Floris, IA, and also in Ottumwa, IA. They moved back to Unionville in 1979. Lola loved to be on the farm, helping with all the farm work. She loved to grow a garden and can the produce, but she also loved her flower garden. She liked to do housework and was once told she would wash the windows “until she wore the pane out.” She also liked to play cards, pitch being her game of choice.
Lola is survived by one son, Richard and his wife Evelyn, of Pollock, MO, and one daughter-in-law, Anne Morgan, of Ottumwa, IA. Her five grandchildren are Rhonda (Steve) Rios, Nancy (R. G.) Lowry, Tonja (Ronnie) Wessel, Michelle (Bryan) Huggins, and Eric Morgan. Fourteen great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren also survive as well as three sisters, Bessie Perkins of DeWitt, IA, Reva Carter of Springfield, MO, and Iris (Lloyd) Andeway of Centerville, IA; and a sister-in-law, Rosemary White of Cincinnati, IA.
Lola was preceded in death by two sons, Roger Morgan and Rick Morgan, and one grandson, Courtney Morgan. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Dovie Gallo, Dulcie Andrews, and Jennie Carter; and a brother, Delbert White. A half-sister, Elva Shadden, and a half-brother, George White, also preceded Lola in death.
Funeral services for Lola Morgan will be held at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, on Saturday, September 24, 2011, at 2:00 pm with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Thompson Cemetery east of Unionville.
