Howard L. Terrell, age 91, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.
The son of Roy D. & Lelia Frances Montgomery Terrell, he was born November 28, 1919 in Putnam County, Missouri. On July 18, 1946 in Kirksville he was united in marriage to Inez Meriam O’Brien. To this union four children were born.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, three daughters and their husbands, Linda & Harl Buckallew, Nancy & Roger Rosenberg, Joyce & Darrell Hettinger and honorary daughter, Sharon & Vic Hoffman, all of the Kirksville area; two sisters, Crystal O’Brien of Kirksville and Kathleen & Dale Zornes of Lee’s Summit, MO; one brother, Edgar & Phyllis Terrell of Sun City, AZ; six grandchildren, Tim Jones, Tom Jones, Jonathan Sloop, Jennifer Sloop, Leah Vincent and Luke Hettinger; four step grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren along with many nieces & nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a son, Donald Howard Terrell, July 18, 1961, a sister, Lola Mulford and two brothers-in-law, Bill Mulford and Leland O’Brien.
Howard was inducted into the United States Army Jan 7, 1942 and served until Dec 20, 1945. He spent the majority of WW II driving a truck in Australia and New Guinea.
After their marriage Howard & Inez bought a farm near Sperry in Adair County Missouri, where they were still living at the time of his death. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards. He was a long time member of the Bethel Community Church.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Davis Playle Hudson Rimer Funeral Home with burial at Bethel Cemetery in Adair County. The services will be conducted by Luke Hettinger and Marvin Cross, with music by Phil & Michael McIntire accompanied by Carol Lowe. Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25, 2011.
Pallbearers are Tim Jones, Tom Jones, Jonathan Sloop, Jeff Atkinson, Joe Vincent and Luke Hettinger. Honorary bearers are Mike O’Brien, Larry O’Brien, Bill Mulford, Terry Mulford, Jeff Zornes and Danny Pagliai.
