Carol Lutze, 83, of Lucerne, MO, passed away at Landmark Hospital in Columbia, MO, on Saturday, October 22, 2011.
Carol Lee (Millsap) Lutze was born in Centerville, IA, on September 22, 1928, the daughter of David Lee and Neita Fern (Couchman) Millsap, who preceded her in death. Carol was reared in Powersville, MO, and graduated from Powersville High School in 1945. On October 25, 1953 she married Bill Lutze in Powersville and he survives at home in Lucerne.
Carol was a homemaker who was very active in community service, both in Lucerne and surrounding areas. She was well known as a gifted piano player and entertained at various nursing homes in the area, especially the Bristol Manor and Putnam County Care Center in Unionville. She played with the “Middle of the Road Band.” Carol served as pianist for many years at the Lucerne Christian Church where she was an active member. She had served on a number of agency boards including currently serving on the Putnam County Ambulance Board. Carol helped with the monthly food distribution at the Central Missouri Food Bank in Lucerne, volunteered in various capacities at local nursing homes, and organized the food stand for the Lucerne Stock Show for a number of years. She was a member of the Lucerne American Legion Auxiliary. Carol is well-known for being the reporter for the Lucerne Items for the Unionville Republican newspaper for many years.
Carol liked to play cards, especially pitch and golf. She would also prepare food plates for local residents at Thanksgiving and Christmas. She was active in helping with funeral dinners and taking food to families who had lost a loved one. Carol loved being with her family. She attended her grandchildren’s sporting events as often as possible and was known to “encourage” a referee or two along the way. She also enjoyed watching her great grandchildren.
Others who survive Carol are her daughter, Cindy Brummit and her husband Jim, of Unionville, MO, and three grandchildren, Josh Brummit and wife Jennifer of Edina, MO; Cari Gorkowski and husband Brad of Waterloo, WI; and Ben Brummit of Normal, IL. Her four great grandchildren are Aden, Zyan, and Nate Triplett and Theron Brummit, Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Carol was also preceded in death by two sisters, Muriel Millsap and June Shumway.
Funeral services for Carol Lutze will be at the Lucerne Christian Church on Saturday, October 29, 2011, at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home on Friday, October 28 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Interment will be in the Lucerne Cemetery, Lucerne, MO
