Howard L. Platte, 69, of Brashear died Monday, December 19, 2011 at Kirksville Manor Care Center.
Howard was born on October 3, 1942 in Sumner, Iowa, the son of Erwin and Clarice "Clara" (Schneider) Platte. On April 26, 1964, in Hawkeye, Iowa, he was married to Goldie Suhr who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Anthony Platte and wife Casey of Kirksville; three daughters, Corrie Willis and husband Mark of Atlanta, MO, Brenda Roberts of Memphis, MO, and Tiffany Norris and husband Charley of Kirksville; three brothers, Henry Platte of Hubbard, IA, Harold Platte of Ratcliff, IA, and Herbert Platte and wife Cindy of New Hampton, IA; one sister, Maurine Wentz of Sumner, IA; seventeen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Harlan, and a brother-in-law.
Howard received his education in the Sumner, Iowa schools. His early life was spent on the farm before moving to Bucklin, MO and later Brashear, MO. He worked for Con-Agra for over 30 years before his failing health forced his retirement. Howard was a simple, humble, honest man of faith who enjoyed antique International Tractors, gardening, and his family. He was co-founder of the Lighthouse of Love Church in Brashear, MO.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Virgil K. Jones leading. Musical selections will be "How Great Thou Art", "Amazing Grace", and "Family of God".
The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until the time of service at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
