Janice Riekeberg
Janice Riekeberg, 71 of Queen City passed away unexpectedly Friday (December 30, 2011) at her home.
The daughter of Victor Rush and Sibyl Evalee (Boggs) Henderson, she was born June 2, 1940 in Schuyler County, MO. On March 14, 1959 she was united in marriage to Earl Riekeberg who preceded her in death on April 4, 2003. Also preceding her in death were her parents and a half brother, Charles White.
Janice is survived by two daughters, Katherine Joan Riekeberg of Ottumwa, IA and Patti Riekeberg and friend Paul Goble of Independence, MO; one son, Richard Riekeberg and wife Shelly of Norwalk, IA; and two grandsons, Cole and Tanner Riekeberg of Norwalk, IA.
Janice spent most of her life in the Queen City area where she attended Green Valley rural school and the Queen City High School, graduating with the class of 1959. She worked for Standard Register in Kirksville for thirty years, retiring in 2002. She then worked for several years at the R&R Market in Queen City. Since retiring she spent a lot of time reading and visiting friends.
She was a member of the Queen City Christian Church. She was very active with the OAT’s organization and was voted the 2010 volunteer of the year. She was a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post 2508 in Kirksville.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday (January 3, 2012) at the Queen City Christian Church with Reverend George Bradburn officiating. Musical selections will be “Go Rest High On That Mountain” and “The Old Rugged Cross”. Interment will be in Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville.
Pallbearers will be Richard Anderson, Jeremy Leffler, Gerald Robinson, Charles Rhoads, Charles Wheeler and Brian Jones. Honorary bearers will be Jim Keim and John Applegate.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Dooley Funeral Home, Queen City, Missouri 660-766-2241
Memorials in memory of Janice are suggested to the Queen City Christian Church.
