Clyde Stutler Forbes Jr.
Clyde S. Forbes Jr. passed away suddenly in Gilchrist, FL, on December 30, 2011 at the age of 74.
Clyde was born in Unionville, MO, on June 20th, 1937 the son of Clyde S. Sr. and Mary Hoover (Auten) Forbes. He was a graduate of Unionville High School (class of '55) and Northeast Missouri State College. Upon graduation, he began a long career in the railroad industry. He started on the railroad as a brakeman for the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway. He worked his way up to become an official of the company. He also spent a short time working for the Chicago, Rock Island, and Pacific Railroad. Clyde worked on the "Super C", the world’s fastest freight train, as well as the "Super Chief," America's premier passenger train. He was also instrumental in installing the very first computer tracking of rail cars for the Santa Fe's entire system. Clyde left the Santa Fe to own and operate his own railroads, which he did until he retired.
Clyde was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he served a two year mission. He had many interests and hobbies, but to sum up his life simply, he was a "railroad man," just like his father.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 28 years, Saundra Phillips Forbes. He is survived by his son, Bradley Forbes of Trenton, FL, three grandchildren, two sisters, Gloria Jamison of Salt Lake City, UT, and Joann Cannon of Novinger, MO, 15 nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at the Unionville Cemetery on January 11th, 2012 at 2:00 pm. There will be no visitation. Local arrangements are under the direction of Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO. Clyde requested family and friends donate to an orphanage in lieu of flowers.
