Helen L. McFarland, 67 of Kirksville passed away Monday (January 23, 2012) at her home in Kirksville.

The daughter of Delbert and Nettie (Sizemore) Mountain, she was born March 20, 1944 in Kirksville, MO. On December 14, 1962 in Kirksville she was united in marriage to Alva Eugene McFarland and he preceded her in death on June 7, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Howard; two brothers, Charles and Sammy Ray; and two sisters, June and Lucille.

Helen is survived by her children, Connie Brogan of Moberly, MO, Ron McFarland of Kirksville and Velma Collins and husband Bob of Kirksville; two brothers, Lewis Mountain of Kirksville and Delbert “Sonny” Mountain and wife Pauline of Kirksville; two sisters, Betty Hoffman and husband Dean of Kansas and Ethel Pettit of Kirksville; seven grandchildren, Chelsea, Michelle, Kristi, Heather, James, Taryn, and Kimber; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Helen grew up in Kirksville and attended the Kirksville schools. After her marriage she lived in Iowa until 1968 when they returned to Kirksville. She was employed as a nurse’s aid at Twin Pines Adult Cate Center until she retired.

She enjoyed doing word puzzles and working in the yard.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday (January 25, 2012) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Virgil K. Jones officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in western Adair County, MO.

Pallbearers will be Robert Mountain, David Mountain, Jerry McFarland, Kevin Leaver, Marc Gatton and Bob Collins.

Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, 2100 E. Shepherd Ave., Kirksville, MO 63501 660-665-2233
