Mary Alice Mabry
Mary Alice Mabry, 95 passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at the Northeast Regional Medical Center.
She was born December 30, 1916 in White Sulphur Springs, Montana, the daughter of Ivan and Pearl (Hall) Hammons. When she was six weeks old, her parents decided to return to Missouri and moved to the Green Castle area where they resided. Mary Alice graduated from the Green Castle High School in 1933. She first worked at the Alexander Photographic Studio for 7 years and the last 4 years of that employment she attended Kirksville State Teachers College (now Truman State University) and received a B.S. degree in Vocational Home Economics in 1943. On November 8, 1941 in St. Louis, MO, Mary Alice was united in marriage to Bennett I. Mabry. After Mr. Mabry’s tour of duty with the military during World War II, they moved to Kirksville to make their home. They had two children, Ruth and Alan. Mary Alice was a stay-at-home mom for ten years, followed by serving as Home Economist for Missouri Power & Light Company, then as Home Agent for the Extension Service of the University of Missouri, in Schuyler County. The last ten years of her career was at Kirksville Junior High School where she taught Home Economics, retiring in 1972.
Mary Alice is survived by her son, Alan Mabry and wife, Cathy of Las Vegas, NV; son-in-law, Frankie McIntyre of Kirksville; two grandchildren, Mitzi Limback and husband, Jeff of Park City, UT and Mark McIntyre and wife, Christine of LaPlata, MO; four great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Aileen and husband “Mac” McElhinney of Chicago, IL; one niece, two nephews and other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1983 and one daughter, Ruth McIntyre in 1995.
Mary Alice was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kirksville and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a former member of the Green Castle Cemetery board, Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, Kirksville Chapter #184, O.E.S., Second Contemporary Club and 29’s Extension Club.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m, Saturday, January 28, 2012, at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Richard Northcutt officiating. Music will be provided by Julie Mikolajczak singing “One Day At A time” and “Beyond the Sunset”, accompanied by Dianthe Cable, organist. Interment will be in the Green Castle Cemetery in Green Castle, MO.
Pallbearers will be Mike McElhinney, Tom McElhinney, James Hess, Dale McGlothlin, Frankie McIntyre and Gaylen Hill.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Mark McIntyre, Jeff Limback and Bob May.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 27, 2012, at the
Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home
