Heidi Lee Zoumaras
Heidi Lee Zoumaras, 62, of Kirksville, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2012, at Kirksville Manor Care Center. Heidi fought her battle with Alzheimer’s disease with faith and courage for more than seven years.
The daughter of Leeland and Ruth Engelhorn, Heidi was born July 21, 1949, in Fargo, N.D. Heidi is survived by her husband, Thomas Zoumaras of Kirksville; daughter and son-in-law, Leah and Benjamin Rosemergy of Chicago; daughter, Erin Zoumaras of San Diego; brother and sister-in-law, Sheldon and Susie Engelhorn of San Diego; brother, Brian Engelhorn and partner Connie Schumway of Parowan, Utah; brother and sister-in-law, Brad and Patricia Engelhorn of Ramona, CA.; sister Angela Engelhorn of San Diego; and brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Lisa Engelhorn of San Diego.
Preceding her in death were her father and mother.
Heidi spent her childhood years in North Dakota and Cass Lake, Minn., until her family moved to Southern California in 1960. She graduated from Crawford High School in San Diego in 1967. She received an associate degree from Grossmont College in El Cajon, Calif., where she studied art.
Heidi was a faithful member of First Assembly of God church in Kirksville, where she worshiped and taught children’s classes until her failing health no longer permitted. Heidi was a gifted artist and an avid baker. She enjoyed learning sign language and loved spending time with family and friends, including Brian and Kristen Pagliai of Kirksville, for whom she nannied from the time they were newborns and loved like her own children. Heidi was good-natured with a wonderful sense of humor, and was frequently smiling or laughing. She was a loyal and supportive daughter, sister, mother, and friend.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2012, at First United Methodist Church in Kirksville. Reverend Richard Northcutt and Kyle Kranes will officiate the service. Visitation will be held immediately before the memorial service with the family receiving friends beginning at 2:00 p.m. Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, 2100 E.
