Jackie McCollom
Jacqueline Ann (Jackie) McCollum, 82, of Boonville, MO, passed away in Lees Summit, MO, on Monday, March 12, 2012, surrounded by her loving family.
Jacqueline Ann (Lester) was born March 19, 1929, in Butler, MO, the daughter of Jack and Dorothy (Ramsey) Lester, who preceded her in death. Jackie grew up in Kansas City, MO and considered herself a “city” girl her entire life. Jackie married James Robert “Bob” McCollom in Excelsior Springs, MO, on February 26, 1954 and he preceded her in death on December 13, 2005.
Jackie considered Boonville her home for several decades. She had arrived in Boonville as the Riverdell Care Facility administrator, a position she served in for several years. Prior administrative positions includes administrator in Dexter, MO, Sweet Springs, MO, and Independence, MO. Upon returning to Boonville Jackie took an active interest in the community she loved. She was a patron member of the Missouri River Festival of the Arts, a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and active member of Friends of Boonville Library, Friends of Historic Boonville as well as Boonville Womens Art.
Jackie loved attending Nelson Memorial United Methodist Church and participated weekly in a Bible Study group where fellow participants became lifelong and nurturing friends. Jackie had hoped to stay in her home and near neighbors, who gave her comfort and support in her later years, but failing health made it impossible and in November of 2011, Jackie transitioned to Lees Summit, MO, to be near family.
Jackie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and memories of her will be treasured forever.
Survivors include: daughters Catherine McCollom Edwards and husband Kent of Confluence, PA, and Kimberly Cravy and husband Richard of Lees Summit, MO; and a son, Michael McCollom and Debbie Van Sant of Omaha, MO. Three grandchildren also survive: Jennifer Dunn of Pittsburgh, PA; and Jessica and Alyssa Cravy of Lees Summit, MO. Other survivors include a sister, Susan Lester of Colorado Springs, CO, a sister-in-law, Jean Grogan of Novinger, MO, and nieces and nephews.
Graveside services of Jackie McCollom will be held at the Thompson Cemetery, east of Unionville, MO, on Friday, March 16, 2012, at 11:00 am. Interment will be at the Thompson Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Nelson Memorial United Methodist Church of Omaha Baptist Church and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 s. 27th, Unionville, MO, 63565.
