Marvin Dale Slaughter
Marvin Dale Slaughter, 74 of Kirksville passed away Saturday (March 24, 2012) at his home.
The son of Bennie and Deloma (Keithley) Slaughter, he was born January 14, 1938 in Gifford, MO. He was united in marriage in Kirksville to Wilma Jean Gates and she preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Bill Slaughter and one brother-in-law, Bill Gates.
Marvin is survived by one son, Tim Slaughter and wife Wendy of Kirksville; two daughters, Venita Slaughter of Kirksville and Patti Cassady and husband John of Mexico, MO; seven grandchildren, Pat, Tia Lynn and Alisa Cassady, Christopher and Ryan Slaughter, Kevin and Stephanie Morford; two great grandchildren, Serenity Craig and Natalie Morford; two sisters, Marilyn Mosley of Texas and Sandra Lene of Kansas; three sisters-in-law, Barb Slaughter of Macon, MO, Eva DeGard of Canton, MO and Anna Joe Gates of Canton, MO; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Marvin grew up in Ethel, Missouri where he attended school and graduated Ethel High School. He worked for 16 years at Montgomery Wards and then worked for Burroughs and Standard Register for 25 years until he retired.
He enjoyed bowling, playing pool and karaoke. He was always willing to lend a helping hand when someone needed. His greatest love in his life was his grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday (March 29, 2012) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home.
Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, 2100 E. Shepherd Ave., Kirksville, Mo 63501 660-665-2233
A family dinner will be held at 12:00 noon of Thursday at the funeral home family center.
