Glenda Mills

Glenda Mills, 79, passed away at her home on Friday, March 23, 2012.

Glenda Jean Mills was born along with her twin sister, Gloria, in Twin Falls, ID, on April 28, 1932, the daughter of Orion and Hazel (Gaddis) Mills, who preceded her in death. The family returned to Putnam County in 1941 and Glenda graduated from Unionville High School in 1950, even though being badly burned in an accident in 1949. She and Gloria returned to Idaho where they received their LPN education and training. Glenda worked at several hospitals after moving back to Missouri including the Monroe Hospital in Unionville, a hospital in Columbia, MO and the Knoxville Veterans Hospital where she worked for 15 years.

Glenda moved to Unionville to care for her aging parents, which she did for 13 years. She went to work at the Putnam County Care Center after their passing and she worked there for 15 years until her retirement in 2008. She loved the nursing profession and caring for people. Glenda had a variety of hobbies and interests including dancing (as a young person), playing cards (especially Pitch and Uno), bowling, and watching television. She also liked to travel to different states and eat out. She loved the Lord and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Unionville, MO and a former member of the Lemons American Legion Auxiliary.

Glenda is survived by her twin sister, Gloria Rhoads, of Unionville, MO, two nephews, Dannie Rhoads and his wife Sherry of Kirksville, MO, and Dennis Rhoads and his wife Jerri of Sheridan, IL, and by a niece, Arletha Flud and her husband Richard of Manteca, CA. Other great-nephews and nieces survive as well as many friends.

Glenda was preceded in death by a brother, Quentin Ables, a sister, Patty Twitchell, and a nephew, David Rhoads, who died in infancy.

Glenda’s wishes were to be cremated with no services to be held.

Memorial donations are suggested to the Dickson Cemetery and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
