Glen Davis
Glen Davis, 86, of Worthington, MO, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2012, at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, MO, where he had been a resident for a short time.
Glen Cecil Davis was born in Putnam County, MO, on February 24, 1926, the son of Albion Stanley and Josie (Scrivens) Davis, who preceded him in death. Glen grew up in eastern Putnam County where he worked in both shaft and strip mining as a young man. On May 21, 1944, Glen married Viola Wiles who survives at home.
Glen entered the Unites States Army in October of 1945 and was honorably discharged in August of 1946. He returned to Putnam County where he engaged in farming for the remainder of his life, raising Black Angus cattle and working with the horses he loved. He was a school bus contractor for 20 years driving for Martinstown, other eastern country schools and PC R-1 kindergarten classes.
Glen loved his church and served as an elder at the Martinstown Church of Christ for many years, where he was a loving shepherd of his flock. He enjoyed annual trips to church camp at Eminence, MO. Glen was a hard worker who always helped neighbors. He loved being with his grandchildren. Glen was a quiet man by nature who had a pleasant and congenial personality. He was friendly and well respected by all in the community.
Glen is survived by his two sons: Carl Davis and wife Carolyn of Worthington, MO and Darl Davis and wife Linda of Unionville, MO. Five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren also survive as well as a brother, Robert Davis and wife Delores, and three sisters, Opal Probasco and husband Shorty, Lois Nalley and Dixie Burns.
Glen was preceded in death by two brothers, Homer Davis and Melvin Davis, and two sisters, Jean Burns and Betty Davis, who died in infancy. A granddaughter, Pei Davis, also preceded him in death.
Funeral services for Glen Davis will be at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home on Thursday, April 19, 2012, at 10:30 am. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 18, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Interment will be at the Martinstown Cemetery, Martinstown, MO.
Memorials for Glen Davis are suggested to either the Martinstown Church of Christ or the Martinstown Community Building and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
