Hazel I. Korsmeyer
Hazel Irene Korsmeyer 102, of Kirksville, MO passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO.
The daughter of Henry L. and Orlena (Ford) Hurdle, Hazel was born May 13, 1910 in Milan, MO. On March 6, 1938 in Olatha, KS she was united in marriage to Wesley Ernest Korsmeyer who preceded her in death on January 21, 1986.
Also preceding her in death were her parents and one sister, Dorothy Downing.
Hazel is survived by one nephew, Leon Downing and wife, Nancy of Walcott, IA; two nieces, Joyce Boswell of Kirksville, MO and Janice Berry and husband, Ivan of Fayetteville, AR and one cousin, Karyl Dester of CO.
Hazel was reared in Milan, MO where she attended school, graduating from the Milan High School. After graduation she taught in the rural schools in Sullivan County. She moved to Kansas City, MO and attended a business college. While in Kansas City, Hazel was employed in the office of a wholesale lumber company. After her marriage she moved to Kirksville, MO where she operated a book store, worked at the Kennedy Theater and was employed at the Jonas Motors and later at Jim Robertson Chevrolet, retiring in 1982.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2012, at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Don Noble officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Hills Cemetery in Kirksville, MO.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 Saturday evening, May 19, 2012, at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home.
