Frieda Ruth Barrett
Frieda Ruth Barrett, 61, the daughter of Philip and Ruth Barrett of Kirksville, passed away on June 2, 2012 at a hospital in O’Fallon, MO.
Frieda is survived by siblings, Dale Barrett and wife Sue of Kirksville, and Jeanne Day and husband Dan of Lake St. Louis, MO. She is also survived by an uncle, Charles Cannaday of Kirksville, special cousins, Bob and Marilyn Barrett of Kirksville, and Marilu Welden Herrick (Rev. Stuart) and Bill Welden of Blue Springs, MO. She is also survived by nieces, Rachel Whitney, Mandy Turner, Ali Barrett, and Whitney Day and nephews, Philip Day and Zach Barrett. She was also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and great nephew and nieces from Kirksville and outside the area.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, a brother and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Frieda was born in Kirksville on December 4, 1951, graduated from Kirksville High School and Northeast Missouri State University (Now Truman State University). Frieda worked for the University of Missouri Extension Center until her health needs required her to retire.
Frieda was an avid reader and very creative, both in sewing, arts and crafts and cooking. She was very committed to cherishing favorite family recipes for all family gatherings. She had a generous heart and loved her nieces and nephews as though they were her own children. She will always be remembered for her appreciation for Elvis and the gospel songs he shared throughout his career. She was devoted to her family and was so proud of all their accomplishments. Her tender heart also was filled with love for church friends as well as her dear pets over the years.
A memorial service, presided over by the Rev. Richard Northcutt, will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church, 300 W. Washington, Kirksville, MO 63501. Visitation with the family will be at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Memorials are suggested to the Humane Society or the donor’s choice.
